Category and Product Identifiers

When entering categories and products a unique identifier must be assigned. This category identifier is used when creating sub-categories and cross references and the product identifier is used when creating related product references.

The length of the field that is used for references and relationships is limited to 250 characters so it is a good idea to use short identifiers when creating your categories and products. The identifiers aren't visible to your shoppers so there is no need to use long identifiers. Using short identifiers is especially important if your store will have many sub-categories or product relationships.
