can't get it to work

Just uploaded the directories and files and then tried to run installer.php and get the following page "The website cannot display the page" HTTP 500

I've checked permissions etc... directory and files set at 777, tried 755

any advice please...

If you look at the server logs it should give you an indication of the problem.
Have you tried the 755 permission on all the public and private directories?

I have tried 755 for both.

It sounds like PHP is disabled on your server; try a simple php file to test your server.
